English

Objective: The Mir tribe is one of the oldest tribes of the western region of the country, which has inhabited areas of Luristan and Ilam since ancient times, and some of the tribe's notables, during a period of Qajar and Pahlavi history, attained governance over parts of these regions. The political activities of the Mir tribe, which invariably attracted the attention of the ruling authority, arose from the tribe's power structure. Members of the tribe were raised in a manner that impelled them toward the expansion of governance. During the Qajar and Pahlavi eras, the tribe's power seeking in the arena of governance became more pronounced. The present study seeks to answer the question of what impact the power structure of the Mir tribe had on the political activities of this tribe in the Balagiriweh region.
Method: The present study employs a descriptive-explanatory approach and the method of oral history. This method facilitates the reconstruction of the political developments of the Mir tribe through the oral narratives of the elderly and local informants, alongside written sources.
Results: Despite the significance of the political movements of the Mir tribe, which originated from their power structure, no adequate research has been conducted concerning them. The results of the study indicated that the Mir tribe, drawing upon the internal cohesion of its members and components such as militarism, a consultative council, and a large population, sought to attain chieftaincy and regional power.
Conclusions: The Mir tribe, upon attaining power, endeavored to preserve it through distinctive tribal characteristics such as collective obedience and the attribution of identity to tribal power as a source of collective pride.
