Abstract
Mental health, as an essential dimension of human well-being, is particularly affected by disorders such as anxiety and depression. In recent years, spirituality has gained growing attention as a complementary approach to psychological therapies. The present study aimed to examine the role of spirituality and religious teachings in promoting mental health and reducing psychological distress. Using a qualitative approach and thematic analysis, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 psychologists and counselors experienced in clinical practice. After coding, data were categorized into nine main themes, including monotheism and inner peace, trust in God when facing difficulties, the role of prayer and remembrance in reducing anxiety, spiritual connection with God, faith in the afterlife, and service to others. The findings revealed that belief in divine unity, reliance on divine wisdom, prayer, remembrance, and focus on the hereafter act as effective strategies to cope with anxiety and depression. Participants attributed their increased resilience, sense of security, and psychological stability to reliance on spirituality. Overall, the results indicate that monotheistic spirituality based on Islamic teachings can serve as a culturally appropriate and complementary approach to conventional psychological treatments, enhancing mental health and improving quality of life.
