English

Objective: This study aims to analyze the role of urban visual security in shaping the socio cultural identity of Isfahan's citizens and to propose a practical model for realizing modern Islamic civilization in contemporary urban planning, thereby addressing the challenge of declining visual security and identity erosion in today's cities. This research also seeks to offer operational strategies for confronting contemporary challenges in urban architecture, with the potential for adoption and localization in other Iranian metropolises.
Method: This study employs a descriptive analytical approach using documentary library methods. Data were collected through library research, field observations, and qualitative analysis of architectural elements along Isfahan's historical axes (including Naqsh e Jahan Square, Chaharbagh Abbasi, Jolfa, and Bidabad). This combined approach, integrating quantitative and qualitative data, enables comprehensive and reliable results for explaining the direct relationship between architectural form and social behavior.
Results: Indicate that along the studied axes, enhanced visual security led to an approximately 40% increase in sense of place, a 35% increase in citizen participation in cultural events, and a 25% decrease in crime rates in areas with high visual security. These figures demonstrate a significant correlation between environmental visual qualities and improved urban livability indicators, directly and positively impacting citizens' quality of life and psychological well being.
Conclusion: Visual security elements (such as mashrabiyas, central courtyards, smart lighting, and hierarchical spatial design) play a key and fundamental role in strengthening Islamic-Iranian identity and creating safe, identity rich urban environments aligned with the ideals of modern Islamic civilization. Ultimately, the reinterpretation and intelligent application of these traditional patterns in modern design constitute an unavoidable necessity for achieving sustainable and pioneering urban planning commensurate with Islamic civilization.
