English

Objective: This study seeks to answer the question of what implications inflationary policies have had for the fate of productive sectors in Iran's economy from the perspective of the analytical level of development. This question is significant in that a precise understanding of these implications can provide a basis for designing efficient economic policies and avoiding the perpetuation of the cycle of inflation and stagnation of production.
Method: The present study, employing the trend analysis method and based on official data (documents), has examined the roots, implications, and consequences of inflationary policies on productive sectors in Iran's economy during the years 2011 to 2020 (the lost decade). This method facilitates the identification of long term patterns and the qualitative analysis of economic trends within the intended time frame.
Results: The most significant damage arising from the shock to key prices and the imposition of inflationary policies is the unprecedented decline in the capacity and motivation for production, the reduction of productivity, and the expansion of the environment of rent-seeking, usury, and corruption. During the 2010s, Iran's per capita income declined by 34 percent, the terms of trade (indicative of national competitiveness) likewise declined by 34 percent, and the misery index reached 45.4. These figures clearly demonstrate the depth of the structural crisis of Iran's economy and the erosion of productive sectors.
Conclusions: Four factors the dominant non-productive culture, the incompatibility of inflationary policies with the needs of industrial life, the presence of a strong non productive sector, and the absence of selective targeting in industry were identified as intensifying the effects of inflation on productive sectors. The key solution for the sustainable resolution of inflation is the presentation of a comprehensive, production-oriented strategic plan accompanied by narrowing the arena for non productive sectors. The realization of this solution requires sustained political will, institutional reform, and the participation of all economic stakeholders.
