Research Objective: The main objective of this research is to examine the personal and private libraries of Shiraz during the Qajar era, and to present one of the largest personal libraries of this city, namely the library of Muhammad Hussein Shua’a Shirazi, nicknamed Shua’al-Mulk (1782-1943 AD), from among the libraries of personal and private libraries during the Qajar era.
Research Method: This research was conducted in a descriptive-analytical and library-based manner, which means that first the personal and private libraries of Shiraz during the Qajar era were extracted and Shua’a’s library was analyzed in order to present a list of the most significant and enduring manuscripts available in that library.
Findings: During the Qajar period (1779- 1929 AD), Shirazi writers, jurists, and book lovers advocated the establishment of private and personal libraries. In this article, about 50 private libraries in Shiraz during this period were analyzed and the Shoa’s library manuscript was introduced.
Conclusion: This researcher concluded that the number of private libraries in Shiraz during this period indicates the prosperity of books and reading and the interest in collecting old manuscripts by collectors. Shoa, as a collector, managed to keep more than one hundred exquisite manuscripts in his personal library, correcting some and writing notes on some, and they are passed on to today’s generation as a spiritual heritage, with the book’s exclusive seals on these manuscripts indicating his ownership.
