Violence against women due to its sexual dimensions and the lack of women's participation in war has always been the focus of international institutions since the establishment of the United Nations and its affiliated institutions. The present study seeks to examine the role of international institutions in confronting gender-based violence in armed conflicts. The question of the article is what ways do international institutions use to confront gender-based violence in armed conflicts? The results of the article showed that institutions such as the Commission on the Status of Women or the United Nations Women and other institutions that, influenced by the Declaration of Civil and Political Rights, address violence against women, played an important role in identifying perpetrators of gender-based violence against women in armed conflicts. Also, in cases where gender-based violence is committed by various states, they consider criminalizing them as organized and state violence, which is of interest to criminal institutions such as the International Criminal Court and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide. Some UN-affiliated institutions take action in cases where gender-based violence leads to repression and killing of women by forming fact-finding committees in armed conflicts. However, the main problem is that the actions of the aforementioned institutions are advisory in nature and are often ignored by members due to political considerations and have no consequences for the state violating women's rights in armed conflicts. In this article, a descriptive-analytical method and library tools have been used
